Shure and NHCA to Offer Free Hearing Screenings at AES
Posted on Thursday, November 11, 2010

NILES, IL, November, 2010 — For the second straight year, Shure Incorporated and the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) have partnered to provide free hearing screenings to attendees at the 129th AES Convention in San Francisco from November 4-7.

“Shure has long been a supporter of hearing conservation as a corporate cause,” said Sandy LaMantia, President and CEO of Shure. “We are grateful for the NCHA’s shared enthusiasm and appreciate their efforts to help provide this service to the attendees at this year’s AES convention.”

The free screenings will be available during show hours in Booth 1709 at the AES Convention in the Moscone Convention Center. An audiologist will be available to speak with test participants about their hearing screening results and offer additional hearing health information and educational materials.

“This continued partnership between Shure, NHCA, and the AES Technical Committee on Hearing and Hearing Loss is a real benefit to AES convention attendees,” said Dr. Brian Fligor, chair of the NHCA Music-Induced Hearing Disorders taskforce. “Early identification of hearing disorders maximizes opportunities for technical solutions to optimize the engineer’s performance and prevent potentially career-threatening hearing injuries.”

Shure is sponsoring the hearing screenings as part of the Company’s Listen Safe program, which is dedicated to educating musicians, audio professionals and consumers about how to enjoy sound responsibly.

“While most audio professionals are savvy consumers of sound, hearing injuries such as tinnitus, abnormal pitch perception, loudness intolerance and loss of hearing sensitivity often develop as a result of high sound exposures, and may be permanent,” said Dr. Michael Santucci, President of Sensaphonics and Vice-Chair of the AES Technical Committee on Health and Hearing Loss.  “Prevention is the key and a fully-informed and educated consumer is less likely to sustain such injuries.”
