Panasonic Employees Will Build a Home to give back to the city of Newark

NEWARK, NJ10/12/2016

Panasonic Corporation of North America and Habitat for Humanity Newark & Greater Elizabeth announced the companies will join forces on Wednesday, October 12 to participate in Habitat Newark’s Corporate Challenge efforts, a house sponsorship program that is helping to build a nine-home subdivision in Newark, NJ for Partner Families.

More than 50 Panasonic employees and dedicated volunteers will lend a hand as a way to give back to the Newark community.

“Our employees are excited to be helping not only the city of Newark as a whole, but in particular, the nine deserving families who will eventually live in this subdivision.” said Brian Rowley, Vice President Marketing and Product Planning, Panasonic System Communications Company of North America, a division of Panasonic Corp. of North America. “Panasonic is proud to be able to support and contribute to the community and we value the positive role our company can play with this effort. We are even more excited have the opportunity to work in the South Ward, an area of our city which has become a main priority for revitalization.”

Jeffrey J. Farrell, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Newark & Greater Elizabeth, explained that the Panasonic employees will be helping to build a home to provide a hand up, not a hand out, for Partner Families in the region. “It is only through the generous commitment and partnership with area corporations that we can help families achieve the American Dream,” Farrell said. “We are thrilled that Panasonic Corporation of North America is one of our corporate partners and we warmly welcome the employees to the build. It is a rewarding day they will remember and cherish for a long time.”

Panasonic is part of the non-profit's annual Corporate Challenge program, in which area companies donate resources and manpower to support home builds. The Corporate Challenge is the leading fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Newark & Greater Elizabeth. Habitat for Humanity Newark & Greater Elizabeth is currently working on Harmony Point, their largest project to date. Upon completion, Harmony Point will comprise 23 homes.

In 2013 Panasonic relocated to Newark, opening its state-of-the-art North American headquarters, the first newly built office tower in the city to receive Platinum and Gold LEED certification. Most recently, Panasonic celebrated the 20th anniversary of its flagship rugged laptop, the Toughbook. Toughbook mobile devices continue to be an integral part of customer missions and expeditions around the globe, delivering the performance and reliability needed to keep pace with today changing mobile workplace.
